"At the Time of Death"
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Do you know when, where, and how you will die? You and I do not, but Allah has commanded us saying:
"And do not die except in a state of Islam." (3:102)
The only thing that human beings in this life can be certain of is that we will all one day die. Death is certain and there is no doubt regarding its occurrence. We have to prepare for that moment and day. It can come at anytime and none of us know when it will happen, but if we are prepared or preparing for it, then when it finally arrives, it's not an issue, because preparation has been made for it.
The question of the day is, what are you doing to prepare for it? This question was the reply that the Prophet gave when he (sAws) was asked regarding the Day of Judgment, which we all know will occur after our death.
Anas narrated that a man asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, "When will the Hour be?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You will be with those whom you love."
In this hadith, the man replied that he had not prepared for the day of Judgment, but in fact, his strong love for Allah and His Messenger was in fact a preparation for this day, as the Messenger of Allah gave him glad tidings that he will be with those whom He loves.
Therefore, adhering to this advice of the Prophet, "What have you prepared for it" applies to death and the Day of Judgment. The Prophet even has given us an important key to a well needed door that we need to enter at this moment of our life, and that is the door of truly and sincerely loving Allah and His Messenger, and through this love, we will, without a doubt, prepare for death, the Day of Judgment, and the meeting with Allah.
May Allah allow us to be from those who are always preparing for death and the day when we will stand in front of our Lord, Allah. Ameen!
