Feliz Ramadan!

We hope you and your loved ones are beginning a peaceful Ramadan. During this most holy month, we will be hosting taraweeh prayers at the Center Masjid, as well our regular Jummah services. Throughout the year we also offer a range of talks, socials, and both English and Spanish language educational material and sessions. We provide counseling services with a range of specialities; converts, marriage, youth, family and to faith leaders hoping to integrate into their local community.

For this Ramadan we are reflecting on the growth we have been blessed with, and envisioning where we can go next. We have been working for two decades now to bridge the gap between Latino and Muslim commnuities, and tackle the distorted representation of Muslims in the media. From just a few people producing a Spanish language CD about Islam to having a center in both Houston and Dallas, we have been able to facilitate and empower the growth of local communities through education, faith and mutual aid.

With just one building we have been able to facilitate so much, and then even more with the center in Dallas. For this reason we are excited to be raising funds this Ramadan for our new building, astate-of-the-art Islamic Center in Houston. As well as all the amenities of a Masjid, it will include a media production center and a Museum about Latino Muslims contribute to the world. We take a lesson from Waqf, which were Islamic foundations originating in Turkey, funded through Zakat and Sadaqa. The idea was to construct buildings as hubs to keep alive their charitable mission for as long as possible, and form pillars for communities. Here we hope to do the same, facilitating further outreach while also restoring the cultural and religious legacy of Latino Muslims to its proud and public place.
