IslamInSpanish Local Programs

The intent has always been to educate Latinos about Islam in the Spanish language from authentic divine sources. 

At a local level IslamInSpanish was established in the city of Houston, TX right after the unfortunate events of September 11th, 2001 with the purpose to educate the local Latino community which make up about 40% of the city’s population about the truth of Islam in their native language. Initially the organization’s founding members operated out of the city’s almost 100 mosques carrying out local live on-going programs and now it operates out of the  1st Spanish-speaking Islamic Center in the U.S. recently opened on January 30th, 2016 which has made history as the “IslamInSpanish Centro Islamico” has been featured on Spanish media outlets including CNN in Spanish, Univision, Telemundo, and other print media.

It is estimated that around 1000 Latinos who have majority embraced Islam from another faith over the past decade that IslamInSpanish has been carrying out its educational activities in the city of Houston.

 
 
 


The intent has always been to educate Latinos about Islam in the Spanish about Islam from its authentic divine sources while separating it from the culture of Muslims from different countries and explaining its principles within a culturally-relevant manner so that Latinos can discover the many similarities between Islam and the Latino culture and its historic roots. It is estimated that around 1000 Latinos who have majority embraced Islam from another faith over the past decade that IslamInSpanish has been carrying out its educational activities in the city of Houston.

The local presence, structure, and success in not only benefiting the Muslim community but also the greater society has made the local IslamInSpanish chapter a model for other cities to follow as IslamInSpanish continues to expand by working with other partnering community in other cities across the U.S. and in Latin America who wish to carry out the model of educational programming and material produced by IslamInSpanish in Houston, Texas.
